STONE CLEANING
Carbon from pollution or spores from algae, lichen and moss are some stains that can reduce appeal for people with regard to stonework. Painting the stone is a costly mistake. With 20 years of experience we can breath life back into buildings with a wide range of methods. Using water at 140 degrees we kill all bacteria ensuring those green bacteria stains don’t grow back unlike conventional pressure washers. Or using chemicals/soda/sand to remove heavy black or dark carbon staining to transform the look of any property.
CONSERVATION & RESTORATION

PAINT REMOVAL
Increasingly more and more people are realising the perils of painted stonework.
The paint locks in moisture rather than keeping it out, accelerating decay and causing damp. Using only architecturally approved and chemical free methods we specialise in the removal of all modern paints from buildings. Bringing back historical integrit yand extending the life of the stonework and buildings by allowing the stonewor kand walls to breathe.
WALLING
From garden and retaining walls to new builds and extensions our rough stone walls are some of the finest examples. Adding a huge amount of elegance to any home, business or garden. Taking time to match stones and mortar or ensuring strength to support retained areas our walling is second to none.
REPOINTING
As an integral part of masonry buildings old and new pointing in stonework or brickwork is the lifeblood of a building. Taking the time and care to ensure the correct mortar is used, whether traditional lime or sand and cement, with a flush or raised finish our guarantees can extend to 35 years.
RENDER REMOVAL
Render, like paint, locks moisture up inside walls causing damp and even damage if in cold weather the moisture is able to freeze. We are able to remove the render and properly maintain the walls behind taking cottages, town houses and country homes from looking like lumps of painted concrete and giving them the historical rough stone integrity they deserve.
NATURAL HYDRAULIC LIME
The more we progress and advance in architectural science the more we realise
the old boys knew best. Traditional limes although more difficult to use are far more sympathetic to their surrounding stones and allow properties to breath.
From mortar repairs to repointing, traditional lime methods outperform sand and cement in nearly every direction.
SCAFFOLDING
At Moffatt Stoneworks we own all our scaffolding. Any rare time extensions on our jobs never results in extended scaffolding bills. Certain buildings with historical significance where home or business owners struggle with the cost of conservation the scaffolding can be negotiated down to cost or even for free
